New Toys: Sony A900 and Nikon D90

It doesn’t get much cooler then coming home from a shoot and seeing new toys sitting there waiting to be opened. That’s why I was SO STOKED when I came home today and saw the new Sony A900 and Nikon D90 here just in time to be experimented with before I leave again.

This A900, a 24.6 Megapixel powerhouse, has to be one of the first consumer production samples in the country — It literally arrived today from China.

The D90 is Nikon’s new APS sensor sized camera, that I’m hoping will make a great backup camera for the D3. One of its coolest features for us is its ability to shoot HD video straight to SD cards!

More after the break —->

I know there will be tons of reviews about these cameras in the coming weeks (will somebody please show me a piece shot with D90 video that actually does it justice!!), but I don’t know too many people that beat on their equipment the way I do. So, I’m going to use these cameras on real shoots in the next couple weeks and report back periodically.  I’m not going to be counting hairs on a paintbrush, or reading text on bottles from across the room — nothing but real shoots and my reactions. Stay tuned… tk

    Hey, same here – I just bought a D90. It’s my first foray into DSLRs. Exciting.

    Dan Chung of the Guardian newspaper has used the D90 for journalism in Tibet:

    When they first announced the D90 Chase Jarvis had a video up. Did you see that?

    Mark –I hadn’t seen the the Tibet video, that looks great and was finally along the lines of what I’d like to see from the camera.

    I’m putting together some steadycam footage with it, and its looking sweet.

    Dano — Chase’s video were was pretty low quality (You Tube) and its all behind the scenes, he doesn’t tell the negative or positives and shoots sports in a way I wouldn’t do. Mostly shaky handheld etc… Hopefully I’ll have time to do something a little more in depth. tk
