I got this from my friend Joe Iurato this morning and I wanted to pass it on, check out his site for contact information.
“Friends,
I hope this finds everyone well.
I want to share a thought with you: Last night I walked in the door
and my apartment was quiet. My wife was just tucking herself into bed
and my son was sound asleep. The heat was on. The lights were off. And
as I kicked my shoes off, first I felt comfort – and then I felt
overwhelmed with sadness. What happened in Haiti hadn’t really hit me
that hard until I felt the safety and warmth of my own home, my own
family — and as I felt my own heartbeat, I somehow connected with the
pain these people are enduring. There is no question that the current
situation in Haiti is beyond what any of us can possibly grasp. It’s
not about politics, religion, race, freedom…it’s about humanity and
its purest, most fragile right, the right to survive. Over here we’re
not privileged. We’re not immune. We’re just lucky. And we should use
our little bit of luck to help those less fortunate.
This morning I released an affordable, limited edition painting titled
“Spray For Haiti”. It’s 12″ x 18″. A 7 layer, hand-cut stencil with
spray paint on heavy card stock. Signed and Numbered. They’re $50.
each, and 100% of the proceeds will be donated to UNICEF in support of
their disaster relief efforts. Why UNICEF? Why not. I believe whether
it’s PIH, Red Cross, UNICEF or others, the money’s going to the same
place. I chose UNICEF because I have absolutely zero tolerance for
watching a child suffer under any circumstance. And UNICEF’s primary
mission is to aid women and children under the age of 18.
I still have a few left and if you’re interested, please send me an
email. The money will be donated in the name of all who’ve purchased
this painting.
On a side note: I understand not everyone can afford $50. I know I
can’t, and that’s why I’m doing this. You don’t need to buy this
painting. You don’t need to donate $50, $40 or even $20 to charity. If
you got $5, send it to the charity of your choice. If everyone does
this, the impact would be tremendous. If you don’t have any money,
there are other ways to help…including the old standard – just say a
prayer.”
