I just got back from an awesome photo/video, running shoot in Chamonix and thought I might share a little behind the scenes in picture form. I’ve been pulling together content for my workshop that’s coming up in Telluride in a couple weeks and one thing that I never appreciated BITD [Back In The Day] was the number of talented people that go into making a great shot. There is a ton of planning in these shoots and I can’t say enough how important everyone’s [our crew had up to 12 people in it at times] input is to the final product. I’d wager to say that it’s because of this that often its not the most creative photographer that gets the job its the one that can communicate, communicate, communicate… anyhow that’s another (longer) post all together. 1 Month – Telluride Photo Workshop

I’m in Chamonix, the alpine capitol of the world, but just got word from North America from the director at the Telluride Photo Festival that my workshop, happening in a month, has filled up. I’m really honored and a bit nervous that people are coming from across the continent to learn from my experiences over the past ten years.

After a bit of discussion we decided to open up 2 more spots in the workshop, so if you are on the fence… now is the time to take the leap.

One of the projects we’ve been working on over the past month is the promotional photo and video for the upcoming Nor’Easter festival. We shot for a week, after getting back from South Africa in June, all around the Northeast. Our focus was simple, shoot artists, athletes, and musicians that embody the spirit of the Nor’Easter. We shot cycle-cross in NH, Climbing at the Gunks, Eli ‘Paperboy’ Reed in Boston, and Joe Iurato doing his incredible stencil art in NYC. It was a whirlwind adventure, we got rained on more often then not, but we made it work. Here is the first in a 4 part series of videos:

Tracy Garneau — 1st Place Women’s at the Western States 100 Mile this past weekend in Squaw Valley, CA. This is a still frame from a stop motion series that will hopefully find its way into a bigger video project we [Camp4Collective] are working on this month.

Road to the Nor’easter

We were home for only two days after South Africa, and now we are on the road again. This time ‘The Road to the Nor’easter’ — a week long college type road trip (READ: FUN!!) cruising around meeting the people, places, and artists that inspire the 2010 Nor’Easter (not a huge fan of their current website) festival coming to New Hampshire in September. The photos and video we are producing will be used in Eastern Mountain Sport stores and with other event sponsors to promote the outdoor music and sport festival. Joe Kinder, one of Eastern Mountain Sports’ athletes and a good friend of mine has a good behind the scenes blog post here.

South Africa – Comrades #2 (Wendy)

Today we did something really exciting but also challenging and traveled around the townships close to Durban with the Non-Profit Organization (and their local partners) — Starfish. We met families and children that have been impacted by the AIDS crisis in South Africa (20% of the population is HIV+). The athletes have been raising money for the organization and wanted to see how they were helping people half a world away.
